How to Connect to Your Hazard Host's Windows VPS Using Remote Desktop

At Hazard Hosts, we make it easy to connect to your Windows VPS using Remote Desktop. Below are two methods you can use to access your VPS. We recommend using Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Microsoft Store for the best performance and security.

Method 1: Connect Using the Built-In Remote Desktop App

While you can use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection app that comes with Windows, this method may be less secure and doesn't offer the best performance. However, if you'd still like to use it, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Start Menu and search for Remote Desktop Connection, then open the app.

  2. In the Computer field, enter the IP address of your VPS.

  3. Click on Show Options to expand the connection settings.

  4. Enter your login credentials:

    • Username: Administrator

    • Password: Enter the password provided for your VPS.

  5. Click Connect to initiate the connection.

Method 2: Use Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Microsoft Store (Recommended)

For a more secure and streamlined experience, we recommend using Microsoft Remote Desktop, available for free from the Microsoft Store:

  1. Open the Microsoft Store on your PC.

  2. Search for Microsoft Remote Desktop and click Get to install it.

  3. Once installed, open the app and click the plus (+) icon in the top right to add a new PC.

  4. In the PC Name field, enter your VPS's IP address.

  5. Under User Account, click the plus (+) icon to add your login details:

    • Username: Administrator

    • Password: Your VPS password

  6. Give your VPS a Friendly Name (e.g., “My Hazard VPS”) for easy identification.

  7. Click Save to store your connection settings.

  8. Now, just click on your VPS in the connection list to connect.

  9. If prompted again, re-enter your credentials.
